Event Logistics

Everything looks good for this weekend’s activities.  The weather report looks decent and we’re really excited to get you all up on the Reserve.
Thank you in advance for generously volunteering your time and expertise to this fun event.

THE BEST WAY TO ACCESS AMERICAN PRAIRIE RESERVE right now is by using the Dry Fork Road which turns off of HWY 191 about 35 miles south of Malta.  If you are coming from the North you still want to come in on Dry Fork. Do not try to use the Regina Road (closed due to washed out culvert), or the Sun Prairie or Content roads (bad condition from recent weather).

4WD vehicles with good clearance and decent tires are highly recommended. If we get a passing shower, which is common this time of year, it could turn our nice dirt road to gumbo (very slippery & sticky mud) that can make travel difficult to impossible. We will talk about how to dance with gumbo at our Welcome & Orientation talk on Thursday evening but in the meantime, if it does happen to be raining while you are driving in please be careful.

Make sure fill your gas tank in Lewistown, Malta or Grass Range depending on which direction you are coming – you want to fill up at the last town before heading toward us.
The closest gas available is in Zortman, which is a good 60 miles + from our Yurt Camp but will solve the problem if you are getting low on the way out on Saturday

Not at the APF Campground... This can be confusing – Follow the directions to YURT CAMP on the linked map above.
We will have welcome packets ready for you when you arrive at the Registration table. These will be complete with schedules, maps, and more in depth information about the BioBlitz experience.
Check in is between 3pm & 5pm on Thursday.
Dinner will be served at 6pm.
We’ll gather everyone for a Welcome & Orientation talk at 7pm.

     No Phone Service

THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO CELL SERVICE ON AMERICAN PRAIRIE RESERVE. The last spot where we have semi-reliable service is where you turn off of Hwy 191 onto the Dry Fork Road, there is a brown kiosk located there – we can usually place calls from that spot but then after that it’s unlikely.
The best number to provide to family for emergencies is the Reserve HQ number, (406) 658-2252.
There is an answering machine there if nobody can answer and we will relay messages to folks in the field as needed.
